Overview
The Mazda MX30 is a compact crossover SUV perfect for urban living, narrow streets and drivers who enjoy cruising the countryside. Its cabin fits five passengers comfortably, and its sporty handling makes it the perfect EV to spice up any drive.
We expect the 2024 Mazda MX 30 to get a few minor aesthetic updates inside and outside. Ceramic and Polymetallic colors options will be replaced by Jet Black and Zircon Sand with a black roof. The gear lever will also receive a slight update that moves the shift button to the front of the gear selector.
What's New in This Year's Model?
The 2024 Mazda MX30 leads the EV market with its stylish bodywork and eco-friendly interior. This compact SUV is likely to get an upgraded dashboard with square vents and a tweak in its heating and cooling controls.
The 17.8 kWh battery gives it a 53-mile pure electric range. Mazda's unique rotary technology allows the all-new 830cc engine to act as a generator for longer-distance drives without range or charging anxiety. The combination of the battery and 50-liter fuel tank creates a unique hybrid SUV with a total range of 373 miles (600 km).
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The projected launch for the 2024 Mazda MX-30 will be in the fall of November 2023, with an estimated price of approximately $34,310. The electric motor, generating 200 pound-feet of torque, delivers a maximum speed of 106 mph (171 kph) in all-electric mode.
The front-wheel drive system has a single-speed automatic transmission that's part of Mazda's MX-30 Electric EV Premium Plus package.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
This crossover SUV features a 3.6 liter hybrid engine and a six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission system that selects optimal gears based on road conditions. The 2024 Mazda MX30 also has an optional turbocharged 2.5-liter engine for more horsepower.
Its sharp steering and responsive body control provide excellent performance on curves and on the highway. At our test track, the MX-30 took 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph. With the optional turbocharged engine, the MX-30 was more powerful than just about any Mazda we've tested, making zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
Fuel Economy
Nonturbo MX-30 fuel efficiency is rated at 98/85/92 mpg for city/highway/combined. However, ratings for the turbocharged MX-30 drop significantly. Like all the models we saw in last year's roundup of compact and subcompact SUVs and crossovers, the new 2024 Mazda MX-30 consistently achieves advertised mileage numbers. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy test, the MX30 averaged 76 mpg.
Safety And Driver-Assistance Features
Several useful safety features come standard in the MX-30. Driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning and automated emergency braking. Optional safety features include a heads-up display and blind-spot monitoring.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Every Mazda has a limited warranty that covers unexpected repairs during the first years of ownership. The manufacturer also provides several specific warranties.
- Basic Warranty: Mazda offers a basic limited warranty on the MX30 that covers repairs for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- Powertrain Warranty: This warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials affecting your vehicle's powertrain components in the first 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- Rotary engine core: This warranty coverage for Engine Core Components can be extended for eight years from the original warranty's start. It has a 100,000-mile limit.
- Emergency Roadside Assistance: Mazda provides 30 months/36,000 miles of roadside assistance if the EV isn't driveable because of a warranted part failing within the coverage period.
